Colorful Cathedral: Travel Photo Contest Friday 23

Update: The winner is Katrina…it must be the good Karma from nominating 2 charities Thanks again to Jasmine and her wonderful picture and awesome blog. This has been one of most commented contests yet! Here’s what she had to say “The answer is Leon, Nicaragua, home to the largest cathedral in Latin America, historical and art museums, Sandinista revolution stronghold, and a sweltering hot climate.” I do love a good revolutionary stonghold! Katrina get a bit prize this week. Not only a link to her wonderful blog Tour Absurd, BUT also links to her more than worthy charities: Children of Ethiopia Education Fund – http://coeef.org/ Amani Children’s Home – http://amanikids.org/ Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. If you’re a new friend, each week I post a beautiful picture (at least I think so) from my travels (or now a featured guest…see below for details) and you guess where it is. Read full article…

Old Fashion Transport: Travel Photo Contest Friday 22

Update: The winner is Dave…again…come on people don’t let him beat you next week! Thanks again to Simon and her wonderful picture. Here’s what she had to say “I shot the photo in Brazil, in one of the many small fishermen villages in Cearà state (don’t ask me the village name, I’ve seen too many…). What makes the place special? The never ending untamed beach, the wild sea and the local fishermen transporting their goods on the small buggy pulled by a tired horse. The feeling of being in a place where time has a different measure, life is hard and nature is wild. But also a place full of charm, and so touching.” The image is just as calming as Simon’s words. Dave, got to pick his link this week and boy did he! In dedication to his new daughter Miriam, born 10/10/10, he’s sharing “one of my favorite Read full article…

Hungry Sheep: Travel Photo Contest Friday 21

Update: The winner is Alicja! Although to be fair she was on the hike! The picture was taken while hiking up Mount Korab in Macedonia. It is the highest peak in BOTH Macedonia and Albania as the peak is right on the boarder. The hike up covers some truly amazing mountain scenery and as expected is in the middle of nowhere, creating a scene that many of you guessed was out of Nepal or the Central Asian States. The shepherd in the picture was quite happy to chat for a while but very disappointed that none of us smoked cigarettes…there aren’t really any stores nearby.  Stay tuned for longer articles on hiking Korab as well as Macedonia’s other main peak Tito. Alicja doesn’t have a website but we will figure out a prize! Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. If you’re a new friend, each week I post a beautiful Read full article…

Impossibly Blue Tropical River: Travel Photo Contest Friday 20

Update: The winner is Brett! The picture was taken in In Kanchanaburi, Thailand at Erwan National park and waterfall of the same name. Just down the street from where the Bridge of the River Kwai story was based, this beautiful river and waterfall system is full of little fish who eat away at your dead skin. Strange feeling but definitely worth the trip. The bonus is that you’ll likely be one of the few foreign tourist there as most will be down at the beaches of the southern coast. Brett’s prize is a link to his very cool Travel and Foodie blog:  Our Tasty Travels. Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. If you’re a new friend, each week I post a beautiful picture (at least I think so) from my travels and you guess where it is. The first person to guess where this picture was taken (Country, and River’s Read full article…

Beautiful Friday: Croatia at Sunset

Today there is no Photo Friday Contest, and instead just a beautiful view from my recent road trip through Croatia. This photo was taken at sunset in the marina that makes up half the town of Skradin down river from the famous Krka National Park. Skradin is your gateway to the Krak National Park where the river flows through the forest collecting in pools created by biochemical processes and resulting in thousands of waterfalls. My next post will be a photo journey through the park and its amazing waterfalls, but today I want to leave you with a beautiful start to the weekend. Share

Colorful Seaside Shrine: Travel Photo Contest Friday 19

Update: The winner is Dave! I know you all have been dying to find out where this is.  The picture was taken in Dili, Timor-Leste (East Timor) just down the road from where I used to live. While the religion is Catholic, there is an unique blend of Animism that is found throughout the island nation and really comes out in the shrines. Timor-Leste is such a beautiful place with an amazingly diverse group of clans (kind of like small kingdoms) and traditional religions based on spirits.  If you have the chance this is one off the beaten track destinations that should not be missed. Oh, and the tropical beaches and untouched scuba diving helps too Dave doesn’t have a website, but he is sweet enough to put his wife Rebeca’s blog forward: This Must Be the Place Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. If you’re a new friend, each Read full article…

Disdainful Statues: Travel Photo Contest Friday 18

Update: Sorry for the delay and skipping a week but hey, even travel bloggers need an internet free vacation. I know the suspense is killing you so the winner is Jasmine with an amazing guess! The picture was taken near the harbor in Amsterdam, Netherlands. I have no idea who these wretched looking folks are, but it is hard to understand how they can be so unhappy in such a lovely city. Maybe a bit too much hash in the coffee bars Please go check out Jasmine’s site Jasmine Wanders, a fun blog about Jasmine’s travels around the world. Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. If you’re a new friend, each week I post a beautiful picture (at least I think so) from my travels and you guess where it is. Not Quite the Middle East: Travel Photo Contest Friday 17

Update: The winner is Andy! The picture was taken in the Arab quarter in Singapore. While not technically Arab street I decided to give it to Andy anyway. The funky Haji Lane is just around the corner and is a must visit for those looking for independent clothing stores and cool cafes. I really loved the color, food and vibrancy of this area. It just goes to show you that Singapore can be interesting Please go check out Andy’s website Sharing Travel Experiences. Its a great resource for travelers as well as fun read for anyone spending a day on the couch. Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. The Faces of Christianity: Travel Photo Contest Friday 16

Update: Sigh, no winner this week. I really hate it when this happens, but don’t worry I’ll let you all know where it is anyway. This is a picture of  Saint Blaise, the patron saint of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The statue of St. Blaise above is from the main entrance to the walled old city and greets visitors as they walk across the moat into the city. Dubrovnik is a beautiful medieval city on the southern coast of Croatia. We visited for the day while we were staying in Kotor, Montenegro. Let’s see who can guess next weeks location correctly. Welcome to Travel Photo Contest Friday. If you’re a new friend, each week I post a beautiful picture (at least I think so) from my travels and you guess where it is. The first person to guess where this picture was taken (Country, and good luck with the Place) will win a link back to their Read full article…

The Most Exotic Locale of All: Travel Photo Contest Friday 15

Update: The winner is Claire! You can connect with Claire and read all about her travels on her blog First-Time Travels.  This picture is from the town docks in Jamestown, Rhode Island (yup, we are smaller than Hawaii!). What makes it so special (besides the incredible beauty of the area) is that this is my hometown. My parent’s house is just a 7 minute walk down the street. Jamestown is the town located on Conanicut Island in Narragansett bay. You may have heard of Newport, RI (our slightly bigger neighbor) which is famous for its colonial town feel, nice beaches and enormous mansions (think The Great Gatsby). Jamestown is a quieter version with a lot of charm and a bit more laid back. There are parks, farms, nice restaurants and as you can see, amazing views of the ocean. You may wonder why I would leave such a beautiful place. I’m Read full article…
