Determine the Fate of Todd's Wanderings

Well, OK, maybe that title is a tad bit dramatic, but it is true nonetheless. Here at Todd’s Wanderings I am always trying to make the website more user friendly and to enhance your experience. I like it when you are happy, I’m also a bit anal and I need everything to look fresh and cutting edge, and of course I want my site to be more popular than twitter, I’m almost there…15 million more readers to go! Over the past few months I have been working with a designer to give my website a facelift. I have been trying to make the design and the brand as appealing as possible before I engage a coder. What I have realized is that I forgot to ask YOU what you think. Yes, I get carried away sometimes. So, I’m here to not only give you a sneak peak at what the Read full article…

The Backstory behind my New Blog: Travel Blog Challenge

As some of your already know I launched a new website on Monday December 20th called Travel Blog Challenge. Before I get into the specifics you may be wondering what the hell I’m doing starting another website. Todd’s Wanderings takes up a large amount of time, I’m writing 2 books, managing a third book for Lonely Plant, and I have a small full time job with the United Nations managing a large peacebuilding project in a very sensitive area. The truth is, the Travel Blog Challenge is a way to give back to the travel blog community. As Todd’s Wanderings has picked up in popularity I have been inundated with requests for advice on how to monetize a blog, how to build more traffic, and various other how to questions that seem to think I am a crossbow hunter! While I have no idea how to fish with a crossbow Read full article…

I don’t do this often enough. Usually I’m tooting my own horn, or at least the horn of a destination or event. Today is a day to give back, to highlight 6 of my favorite travel bloggers. Each of these writers has inspired me and my development of Todd’s Wanderings in a different way. I’m also proud to call them my friends. Well, friends that I’ve never met face to face. But friends that I talk to more often than my friends back home thanks to the addictive power of twitter, facebook and RSS feeds. OK, OK, friends might be too strong a word, but what else do you call an obsessive compulsion to read everything about someone on the internet, check out where they are day in and day out, and spy on their conversations with others in the bushes of a comment box? For those of you humming Read full article…

Blog Design: Building a Better Travel Blog

This is a different type of post and may not be for everyone. It’s not about the sexy world of travel, or the international allure of conflict resolution. It’s not even about getting drunk in the woods, drinking horrible local liquor and dancing to Balkan music until 2 am (which did happen just last weekend). As you may have noticed there have been quite a few changes to the design and layout of Todd’s Wanderings over the past month. Some are cosmetic, while others took place under the hood. These changes have coincided with recent requests for advice on how to develop a travel blog, how to find a niche, developments in the travel blogging world, how much effort it takes to maintain a site like mine, and how do I find the time to travel, work, blog and sleep. Interestingly enough, there is a thriving market for social media and blog consultants which it seems I am Read full article…
